Lamine Yamal is the AI favorite for the 2026 Ballon d'Or, according to data released by French firm Avisia. The 19-year-old Barcelona winger has a 23 percent probability of winning the award. The ceremony takes place in less than 24 hours at the London Palladium.

Harry Kane and Kylian Mbappe follow Yamal in the Avisia rankings. Kane holds a 21 percent chance, while Mbappe is at 19 percent. Rodri, the 2024 winner, is also at 19 percent. Lionel Messi rounds out the top five with an 18 percent chance of a record ninth win. Avisia states it correctly identified the top five for the 2025 award won by Ousmane Dembele.

Bookmakers disagree with the AI models. They list Kane as the outright favorite with a 70 percent probability. This creates a sharp split between the data models and the betting markets. The final decision rests with the France Football editorial board.

Players and coaches have spoken publicly about their choices. Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone supports Messi. "After the World Cup, he played at his age… No doubt about it," Simeone said. Former Italy defender Marco Materazzi agreed. "With all due respect to Yamal, I think Messi showed, at 38 years old, he’s in a different league," Materazzi added.

Jude Bellingham, who is also shortlisted, backed Kane. "He works so hard for it, and he’s a very honest and hard-working person," Bellingham said. He called a Kane win "definitely possible." Anthony Gordon chose Yamal. "What Lamine has achieved at such a young age… the kind of player he is, is ridiculous," Gordon said. Aurelien Tchouameni supported Mbappe, citing an "incredible season" for the Frenchman.

Individual statistics favor Mbappe. He leads La Liga with 25 goals and the Champions League with 15. He also won the World Cup Golden Boot and set a record with 12 tournament goals. Kane scored 73 goals last season. That is the most by any player since Lionel Messi scored 82 in 2011-12.

Trophies often determine the outcome. Only four of the last 19 winners did not take a major title. Mbappe won no major trophy with club or country. Kane won the Bundesliga but England finished third. Yamal won the World Cup and La Liga. He is aiming to become the youngest winner, surpassing Brazilian Ronaldo who was 21 in 1997.
